Thanksiging

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a holiday that originated as a public festival and is now celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November. In 1620 Pilgrims had landed on America and settled in an area they named Plymouth south of where Boston is today. That year, those who had immigrated had a harsh winter and rations were very limited. Luckily a native American named Squanto helped them how to grow many things and also how to hunt and fish. In 1621 the grateful pilgrims invited the native Americans to an autumn harvest feast that is now known as one of the first Thanksgiving celebrations. For more than two centuries, days of thanksgiving were celebrated by individual colonies and states. It wasn’t until 1863 that President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national Thanksgiving Day to be held each November. The tradition has continued for hundreds of years since and is celebrated with lots of delicious food and wine. Thanksgiving celebration has lost much of its original religious significance; instead, it now centers on cooking and sharing a bountiful meal with family and friends. Volunteering is a common Thanksgiving Day activity, and communities often hold food drives and host free dinners for the less fortunate.

Daily Student Success Statement  "Character is higher than intellect" -Ralph Waldo Emerson  Reflection: I agree with this quote, as I personally like it. This quote is saying that  having a good personality is more important than being a  smart person. So it's technically  saying that although intelligence is important, being nicer to others is more important. So it doesn't matter how smart you are, your kindness is all that matters. So if you don't go to college and not get a job and you end up homeless as long as your nice, everything will be great. So be nice, being kind matters most. It's like if they check someone's grade, and a person has an A in a class but U for behavior and another person has a B but an E in conduct, they will choose  the person with the lowest grade. So don't forget to behave well, have good character. This is all because grades shouldn't be your priority. Behavior and good character should be your priority.

"I wasn't trying to leave a legacy. I was trying to do what was right." -Dean Smith  Reflection:  What I believe this quote means is that you shouldn't do something just so people can like you, you should do it because it's the right thing to do. Instead of doing things for attention you should do it for your own good. Don't try to please others, and do what's right.  For example say you saw someone throw trash on the floor, you should do it because you are trying to do what's right, instead of let's say only doing it because there were a lot of people watching you and thinking good things about you. Try to remember that someday people will forget what you did and not remember any of your past actions, but even if they forget what you did the change you made to help the world will always be there. Popularity won't last forever, but everything you have done to help your environment, community, or peers will remain there fo...

Daily Student Success Statement  "True Independence and freedom can only exist in doing what's right."  - Brigham Young  Reflection:  I agree with this quote because true independence and freedom can only exist  in doing what's right. So do what's right because it's important to be independent and live freely once you start choosing the right. Like Brigham Young University students don't use bad language, they don't drink alcohol, and caffeine which includes coffee and soda which is so sad. But they resist temptations anyway. SO choose the right.
