Memorial Day

Memorial Day

What is Memorial Day?

It is a day on which those who died in active military service are remembered for their hard work, and their contribution of this country's citizens' well being.

When is Memorial Day each year?

This holiday is celebrated every year on the last Monday of May, making this year's  Memorial Day on Monday 28, 2018.

What are some ways to show honor and respect on memorial day?

Many people honor those who died serving the country by visiting their cemeteries and memorials. Many volunteers place an American flag on each grave in national cemeteries.

What are a few things you will do on Memorial Day to show honor and respect?

Can try to go to a parade in a local area to pay tribute to those who have sacrificed their life for us. Also take a moment to acknowledge their work and not just ignore it.

Facts:

  • It started with the civil war
  • Was first known as decoration day
  • It has it's own customs
  • Not even unidentified people go unnoticed

Reflection:

I think it is a day that is necessary to celebrate in our country, We honor those who died protecting us from harm. It is good to have a holiday to remember those who helped us but cannot be here with us. That;s why it is important to learn more about this holiday, to get more involved. That's why instead of going home and not doing anything that day, as if it were an ordinary day, do something to honor them. Go to a parade, a cemetery, a barbecue, but do something to honor them. After all where would we be without them?

Student Sucess Statement

Daily Student Success Statement  "When a deep injury is done us, we never recover until we forgive." -Alan Paton Reflection: I agree with the statement by Alan Paton. If someone does something for you, you must forgive. Forgiveness doesn't have to start right away, but it has to start somehow. If you don't forgive you'll grow old and you'll still be filled with hate for someone. Instead you should have forgiveness and enjoy a good life with no hatred . For example let's say your neighbor crashed into your car, you should forgive them eventually. Sure, at first you might be mad for what they did to your car and how much it will cost you, but eventually you should forgive them. What good does being filled with hate and not forgiving someone bring you. Instead of being bitter and mad at people, you should be happy knowing you gave them a  second chance and maybe even changed their life.
