Memorial Day

Memorial Day

What is Memorial Day?

It is a day on which those who died in active military service are remembered for their hard work, and their contribution of this country's citizens' well being.

When is Memorial Day each year?

This holiday is celebrated every year on the last Monday of May, making this year's  Memorial Day on Monday 28, 2018.

What are some ways to show honor and respect on memorial day?

Many people honor those who died serving the country by visiting their cemeteries and memorials. Many volunteers place an American flag on each grave in national cemeteries.

What are a few things you will do on Memorial Day to show honor and respect?

Can try to go to a parade in a local area to pay tribute to those who have sacrificed their life for us. Also take a moment to acknowledge their work and not just ignore it.

Facts:

  • It started with the civil war
  • Was first known as decoration day
  • It has it's own customs
  • Not even unidentified people go unnoticed

Reflection:

I think it is a day that is necessary to celebrate in our country, We honor those who died protecting us from harm. It is good to have a holiday to remember those who helped us but cannot be here with us. That;s why it is important to learn more about this holiday, to get more involved. That's why instead of going home and not doing anything that day, as if it were an ordinary day, do something to honor them. Go to a parade, a cemetery, a barbecue, but do something to honor them. After all where would we be without them?

Daily Student Success Statement

Daily Student Success Statement  "Character is higher than intellect" -Ralph Waldo Emerson  Reflection: I agree with this quote, as I personally like it. This quote is saying that  having a good personality is more important than being a  smart person. So it's technically  saying that although intelligence is important, being nicer to others is more important. So it doesn't matter how smart you are, your kindness is all that matters. So if you don't go to college and not get a job and you end up homeless as long as your nice, everything will be great. So be nice, being kind matters most. It's like if they check someone's grade, and a person has an A in a class but U for behavior and another person has a B but an E in conduct, they will choose  the person with the lowest grade. So don't forget to behave well, have good character. This is all because grades shouldn't be your priority. Behavior and good character should be your priority.

"I wasn't trying to leave a legacy. I was trying to do what was right." -Dean Smith  Reflection:  What I believe this quote means is that you shouldn't do something just so people can like you, you should do it because it's the right thing to do. Instead of doing things for attention you should do it for your own good. Don't try to please others, and do what's right.  For example say you saw someone throw trash on the floor, you should do it because you are trying to do what's right, instead of let's say only doing it because there were a lot of people watching you and thinking good things about you. Try to remember that someday people will forget what you did and not remember any of your past actions, but even if they forget what you did the change you made to help the world will always be there. Popularity won't last forever, but everything you have done to help your environment, community, or peers will remain there fo...

Student Success Statement

Student Success Statement I have been asked what I mean by 'word of honor,' I will tell you: Place me behind prison walls-walls of stone ever so high, ever so thick, reaching ever so far into the ground-there is a possibility that in some way or another I might be able to escape; but stand me on the floor and draw a chalk line around me and have me given my word of honor never to cross it. Can I get out of the circle? No, never! I'd die first." -Karl G Maeser Reflection: I agree with this quote because it tells us that keeping our promise is very important. Making a promise not only affects you, but also the person you made a promise to. They depend on you keeping that promise. If you do not keep that promise you might harm them or take away an opportunity from them. Not only do you harm them you also lose their trust.. By breaking your promise, chances are they will never trust you again. And if for some reason there is an emergency or a valid excuse...
